Nov 1968, Showcase #78, Page #2 Splash, Jack Sparling pencils/inks, "Born to Trouble... Jonny Double" 1st appearance & Origin of Jonny Double. Jonny Double was created by Len Wein and Marv Wolfman in 1968. Marv Wolfman in Alter-Ego #113 (October 2012) said that originally Johnny Double was to disguise himself as a potential victim of assassination or murder. That concept later became the Human Target. This gritty crime noir story with a hint of psychedelic grooviness introduces "a down-beat Don Quixote in a society that frowns on windmills searching for that last dragon to slay. Meet Jonny Double, ex-cop and semi-private investigator, who makes his living wallowing in the aftermath of innocence and the tattered ruins of people's souls! Jonny Double, a once-white knight in counterfeit armor, the poor man's Peter Pan." This story by Marv Wolfman with dialogue by Joe Gill is gripping and ahead of its time - pushing the envelope with a down-on-his-luck hero who takes more punches than he throws.
