January 1980, Man-Thing #2, Page #1 Splash, Jim Mooney pencils/Bob Wiacek inks, (2nd Series), "Himalayan Nightmare!"
A stellar Man-Thing splash featuring Jim Mooney's great pencils, and great inks by Bob Wiacek.
A big thank you to a good friend with a heart of gold, Paul A. Paul purchased this for himself but I was floored when I saw it, and he agreed to allow me to own it.
Man-Thing by Mooney is as exquisite as it gets for me. I prefer Mooney's art to Ploog on Man-Thing, without any disrespect to Ploog.
Also, Michael Fleischer wrote the story and I absolutely love his work;
Fleischer became (in)famous when he wrote those incredible Spectre stories in 1974, drawn by Jim Aparo. Fleischer was notorious for his gruesome depictions of the Spectre's poetic retributions against criminals.
Genius in any field is mostly not realized till after the fact.
Jim Mooney's talent is also only now being noticed and his work on Man-Thing was nothing short of spectacular.
