August 1974, Captain America #176, page #30, Sal Buscema pencils/Vince Colletta inks, In the historic Cap #176, Cap is re-thinking his life...which leads to his fateful decision to give up being Captain America. Well, what can I say. This is the first Sal Buscema Cap page I have bought in 2 years. They just don’t come up for sale. Where are all the key pages that are still out there I ask? And why do so very few Sal Cap pages actually ever come up for auction. There was only one page i have seen in over four years ago. And they also rarely show up on a dealer’s site. What is up with that? Well, I guess other people covet them as much as I do and they don’t want to part with them. Cap #176 is a key issue in the Cap mythos. It is the issue where Cap decides to quit being Captain America, as he gets disillusioned with the events that occurred in the finale of The Secret Empire from last issue. He is questioning his country and what he represents. This occurs on the historic End page, which is two pages later. This panel page is the key sequence where Sharon Carter gives Cap her blessing if he does decides to quit. Falcon and the Vision are also present to guide him with his decision. The epic issue ends with Captain America being no more.
