August 1972, Astonishing Tales #13, Page #1 Splash, Rich Buckler pencils/Dan Adkins inks, "The Mark of the Man-Thing". A truly astonishing splash - drawn by one of my favorite artists of the 1970s, Rich Buckler, and inked by my 2nd favorite inker, Dan Adkins! The inks are so crisp when looking at this beauty in person, this glorious splash looks like it was drawn and inked yesterday! Also, the art goes wall to wall sideways and up and down - wow! Terror in the Everglades! Perhaps the greatest Ka-Zar saga of all, as the jungle lord comes face-to-face with…the Man-Thing! A mysterious plane makes an unscheduled late night landing at Miami International Airport. Aboard are Ka-zar, Zabu, Barbara Morse and Dr, Paul Allen. They're on their way to a secret laboratory in the swamp from which researcher Ted Sallis recently disappeared. They hope to find him and his secret super-soldier formula before the sinister forces of A.I.M do. S.H.I.E.L.D. has recruited Ka-Zar to help find missing scientist Ted Sallis who disappeared while working on a super soldier serum in the Everglades. Attacked by rival organization A.I.M., and the renegade Man-Thing, Ka-Zar, Zabu and friends have their hands full!
