December 1972, The Mighty Thor 206 Cover, John Buscema pencils/inks, "Rebirth", Thor vs: The Absorbing Man (Crusher Creel) This is my #2 absolute GRAIL Cover that I have been looking for since 2004. I never saw it anywhere or heard of its whereabouts till now. Well, it showed up this month in the January 2021 Heritage auction. I had to wait over a month to bid on it, but the day finally came and I was able to bring it home. This classic story line, written by Gerry Conway, reintroduces The Absorbing Man back into Marvel continuity from his last appearance two years earlier in Incredible Hulk #125 (1970). This is the zenith of collecting comic art. Artistic perfection to go along with incredible nostalgia. I read this comic off the newsstand the third month after I started reading comics in 1972. The image is so vividly imprinted in my mind, it is totally unforgettable. I am so happy beyond description to be able to put this up on my wall and enjoy it till my last days.
