This is one of my favorite Cap splashes. The most poignant and introspective I have seen Cap in a comic. I read this off the newsstand a year after I started reading comics. It was quite powerful stuff for any 12 year old. May 1973, Captain America #161, Page #1 Splash, Sal Buscema pencils/John Verpoorten inks, “...If He Loseth His Soul!”, In this issue, Cap blames himself for losing Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, as a friend. This scene occurred right after the Falcon told Cap in last issue that Captain America no longer needs a sidekick like him, because with his newfound super strength he can dispose of most villains without any help from him.
