May 2011, Captain America #153 Cover, Steve Epting pencils/inks, this is a reinterpretation of the classic Captain America #153 Cover, which was originally drawn by Sal Buscema and inked by John Verpoorten; This is the 1st Captain America comic I ever read off the newsstand! The original cover date is September 1972 and it began the historic storyline, "Captain America--Hero Or Hoax?", written by Steve Englehart, which reintroduced the 1950s Cap and Bucky in the current Captain America timeline! I asked Steve Epting to re - interpret this cover image about three years ago as he was winding down his Captain America run written by Brubaker; He agreed although he generally does not do any detailed commissions - he did tell me to wait till he got a break in his hectic schedule. I agreed of course. He emailed me a few months later and told me that he got a new Marvel book to draw, which turned out to be "Marvels Project"; he told me that since he pencilled and inked all the issues, he was on a breakneck schedule, so my Cap 153 had to wait once again; No problem for me. After he finished his Marvels Project, eight months later, he did get a chance to email me a Preliminary sketch of the cover, which I instantly approved of. But then Steve broke the news to me that he got the Fantastic Four comic to do, written by Jonathan Hicks, and he had to push back the final cover once again. I understood and patiently waited once again. Steve finally got a change this month to finish the cover for me, which he mailed to me this week, and I got it today! I am speechless with the tremendous effort he put into this cover - the washtone technique he used makes the heroes look almost 3-D. Steve also hand drew the logo and all the captions and word balloons and then inked them! I want to thank Steve Epting once again for his tireless work ethic and for making me a very happy camper. Althought I turned 50 today, I feel like an 11 year old kid reading his 1st Captain America comic once again! I guess this is what our hobby is all about!
